| | | The Workers' Company With the implementation of the Atlanta agreement,
many women lost their jobs due to the introduction of organized stitching centers. Talon, as part of its pilot
project" Talon Model" provided training facilities to more than 50women stitchers and employed them in
our garment-stitching unit. The worker's response to this project has been overwhelming and the pilot project
is now being extended to other areas having clusters of unemployed female stitchers. With this project the
women workers have found jobs with better wages than before in a socially acceptable profession. Women Workers One in three employees at Talon is a woman. Talon
realizes the importance of these workers especially from the point of view of poverty alleviation from Sialkot. As a rule
women spend more of their income on their children's health and education compared with men. This is why Talon
emphasizes on intensive women recruitment as means to reduce poverty and potential risk of their children becoming stitchers.
The results of this initiative are already looking positive and we expect other organizations in the area to soon follow suit. | | TECs attached to female centers Transit Education Centers have been set up adjacent to
our female stitching centers. Children below school going age are admitted to these centers and taught for six months
before getting enrolled into formal schools. The TECs do good in two ways, one they provide a safe and meaningful daycare
facility for the workers children and two, they prepare children for proper schools minimizing the dropout rate because of
basic orientation to these schools.
Health and Safety Basic orientation is provided to all workers at Talon.
Facilities such as adequate lighting, ventilation in specific areas, noise
protection equipment etc are made available for every one. Besides health coverage, regular medical checkups
for workers are also carried out at regular intervals as part of this program. The safety procedures are strictly adhered to at
all stages of production regardless of the expertise of the workers. |
